Botox Q & A

What is Botox®?

Botox is a cosmetic injectable used to minimize the appearance of dynamic wrinkles. Dynamic wrinkles occur due to repetitive facial movements like smiling, frowning, or squinting. As you age, these motions often result in crow’s feet, fine lines, and wrinkles.

How does Botox work?

Botox is a cosmetic neuromodulator. It’s manufactured using the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. Once injected into your body, Botox blocks nerve signals from reaching the muscles in your face. This allows them to relax, minimizing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

Although Botox isn’t permanent, it can significantly reduce the appearance of wrinkles for four to six months. Plus, the more frequently you receive Botox injections, the longer your results last.

Am I a good candidate for Botox?

To determine if you’re a good candidate for Botox, Dr. Cuevas examines the skin on your forehead, cheeks, and beneath your eyes. Afterward, she asks about your goals for treatment.

During your initial consultation, let Dr. Cuevas know about your medical history, including any allergies you have or prescription medications you take. You should also let her know if you’re currently pregnant or plan on getting pregnant in the near future.

What happens during a Botox appointment?

If Dr. Cuevas determines that you’re a good candidate for Botox, she has you remove your makeup and applies a topical numbing cream to your skin. Once the numbing cream sets in, she carefully administers a number of injections. The number of injections you receive depends on the severity of your wrinkles, health history, and goals for treatment.

Most people leave the office within 20-30 minutes. Following your appointment, adhere to Dr. Cuevas’ recovery instructions to ensure stunning results.

What is recovery like following Botox treatment?

Following your Botox injections, avoid massaging, rubbing, or applying pressure to the treated area. Doing so may cause Botox to spread to other areas of your body, which can negatively affect your results. You can return to normal activities like work right away, but you should avoid strenuous exercise for at least 24 hours.

It’s important to remember that Botox doesn’t work overnight. It provides cumulative effects, which means your results improve over time. Be patient and you’re sure to see a significant reduction in wrinkles within a few weeks.

Don’t let wrinkles and fine lines negatively affect your self-esteem. Schedule a Botox appointment at VidaDental. Book online, or call the office today.
