What is Botox?

Botox is an injectable anti-wrinkle treatment that’s made from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. Botox was the first anti-wrinkle treatment to get FDA approval in 1989 and it has over 16 years of research proving its safety and efficacy.

Wrinkles form over time due to repeated contractions from your facial muscles, leaving folds and lines in your skin. Botox works by relaxing these muscles so they can no longer pull on your skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

What can Botox treat?

Botox is the only product that’s FDA-approved for moderate to severe glabellar frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines. Here’s how Botox works in each of these areas.

Glabellar frown lines

Glabellar frown lines are the vertical lines between the eyes that often develop when you squint, concentrate, or frown.

While these lines often develop naturally due to your expression, having these frown lines permanently etched on your face can make you look angry or irritable.

Botox works on glabellar frown lines by relaxing the muscles in between your eyebrows. We inject Botox directly into this area to smooth your frown lines and create natural expressions.

Forehead lines

If you have particularly expressive eyebrows, you might notice the development of horizontal forehead lines which can give you a constantly surprised or angry expression.

Botox can help smooth those out by preventing excess movement in this area. You should see full results in a few days, leading to a visibly smoother forehead.

Crow’s feet

Crow’s feet are the thin lines that develop around the outside of your eyes.

These lines often develop when you laugh and smile but can become permanent over time due to a loss of collagen and elasticity.

Botox can relax the muscles that pull at the corners of your eyes to get rid of those pesky lines.

Other health conditions

Botox is also approved to treat a number of other health conditions, such as hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), blepharospasm (eye twitching), and chronic migraines.

How often can I have Botox?

Botox usually lasts around 3-5 months, but it depends on your lifestyle, treatment area, and factors like sun exposure and activity level.

If you incorporate regular Botox sessions into your beauty regimen, you may find that your results last longer and you can have more time in between sessions.
